Fantastic. xP It's my favorite game (the sequels are as well... well, sequel, and pseudo-sequel).
I've never seen a game with fans so enthusiastic that they'd actually make their own.
I've never played it but I've heard nothing but good things from it (my roommate and others at residence)
It is. lol Anyone who enjoys RPG should play it, whether they like it or not. lol
why is that?
First off, you wouldn't know if you like it or not until you play it. xP
Second, the fact that a game from 1995 is still being raved about by it's ever growing It's been ported from SNES, to Playstation, Playstation Network, Virtual console, Nintendo ds, iOS, Mobile Phones and now there's even an Android port coming.
The music is, strangely enough, amongst the highest quality around, even despite being limited by 16 bit technology at the time. The story is immersive and sometimes even thought provoking. Someone has even taken the story and applied an existential lens to view the game through.

Two remakes by fans for a 3d experience, several fan based rom hacks.
An instant classic, well renowned in the RPG world. It's a must play. I'm just lucky I was able to have the cartridge. xP It's worth the playing.
I might be slightly biased, but the number of times it's passed through a top 100 list, and generally fairly high up the list, I think that says something (such as in 2008, IGN placed it at number 2, I do believe).
